MESOP NEWS : ISIS campaign in villages outside of Erbil?

Basnews: Since last Tuesday, the Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham (ISIS) has started a campaign to promote their group in the towns and villages outside Erbil, the capital of the Kurdistan Region, an area known as “Erbil Valley”.


According to locals from these settlements, ISIS militants have started writing slogans such as “Long Live ISIS” on the walls. ISIS militants and supporters have written slogans in the village of Mastawa, 15 km west of Erbil, along with other nearby villages and towns. This has concerned local residents.
Fayaq Tufiq, the Deputy Interior Minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG), told BasNews that his department did not have any information regarding these activities in the Erbil Valley.
ISIS is launching its own promotional campaign to coincide with those of political parties in the 30-day nationwide election campaign which started on April 1st.
