MESOP NEWS INSIDER: Tehran’s Concern About Israel-Russia Meeting

March 13 By Scott Lucas – eaworldview – Iran has tipped off its concern about a meeting between Israeli and Russian leaders over Syria’s civil war, claiming that Israel is behind the six-year conflict.Speaker of Parliament Ali Larijani spoke yesterday about Friday’s discussion in Moscow between Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Russian President Vladimir Putin:Netanyahu laid the conditions for peace in Syria. He clearly stated that the Zionist regime is behind the war in Syria.

If some regional leaders were so far in a doubt that the war in Syria is not in line with the interests of Muslims, the least of which Sunni Muslims, they should have been disillusioned with these remarks by the head of the Zionist regime.

Netanyahu sparked the Iranian reaction with his insistence to Putin that Hezbollah and Iranian-led militias must be kept away from the border in southwest Syria with the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights, including in “talks on a settlement of any kind”.

Putin avoided any public reference to the issue. Russia, along with Iran the essential backer of the Assad regime during the conflict, has been brokering indirect talks between Damascus and the opposition-rebel bloc seeking Assad’s departure.

Larijani maintained yesterday, “The main reason behind the adventures in the region is to defeat resistance and its supporters to pave the way for the Zionist regime’s complete dominance here.”

While Moscow and Tehran have been allied to ensure Assad’s survival, there have been difference between the two countries in recent months. Russia has been more concerned with the pursuit of talks that could lead to a political resolution, while Iran has preferred the ongoing military operations seeking to take more opposition territory.
