MESOP NEWS : Increased Cooperation Between Peshmerga and US Army / US officials have always shown willingness to assist Kurds: US Ambassador

Basnews – 25.06.2015 – ERBIL – The United States has pledged to continue supporting the Peshmerga in the fight against Islamic State (IS).

In a statement released 24th June, the office of the Kurdistan Region Presidency revealed that President Massoud Barzani met the US Ambassador to Baghdad Stuart Jones, accompanied by the US Consul General in Erbil Joseph Pennington and a number of military commanders.President Barzani outlined the latest developments in the fight against the jihadists and US support for the Kurdistan Region.The political and security crises in Iraq and Syria were discussed, alongside plans to further develop cooperation between the US and the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG). The planned operation to liberate Mosul was also on the agenda. The US delegation promised support for the region will continue, developing the historic relationship between the Americans and Kurds.
