MESOP NEWS EXTRA : THE EQUIPE FOR GENEVA – Syrian opposition to form unified delegation for Geneva
http://o-t.tv/pFy -10 Febr 2017 Syrian opposition High Negotiations Committee (HNC), the National Coalition for Syrian Revolutionary and Opposition Forces and some armed opposition representatives are coming together in Saudi Arabia for a conference aimed at appointing the names of their delegation to attend Syria peace talks planned for 20 February in Geneva, Switzerland.
Ahmad Ramadan, the media official in the Syrian Coalition, said that the political body of the coalition ended on Thursday a meeting which discussed the Syrian political trajectory. After the meeting, the Coalition Secretary-General Anas al-Abdeh headed to Saudi capital. Geneva delegation will be formed on trilateral basis
The members in the delegation to Geneva will be between 15 to 20 members. A third will be formed from the Coalition and the HNC. A third will be formed from the opposition fighters. And the last third will be from the National Coordination Committee and other platforms and independent figures, according to Ahmad Ramadan.
On his side, Osama Taljo, the Coalition political body member, said that there is an agreement between the Coalition, the HNC and the opposition fighting groups on forming the Geneva delegation. The three sides are keen on selecting names and figures who can obtain the rights of the Syrian people from the Assad regime. Assad regime and Iran are the main and biggest obstacles which stand in the way of reaching a political solution in Syria, according to Taljo.Assad regime and Tehran have the unreal way of thinking that they are able to end the Syrian revolution by the military force and suppression, he added.Meanwhile, The UN is preparing for Syria peace talks in Geneva. The UN envoy Staffan de Mistura will send invitations for the talks in the coming days, the UN spokesman said yesterday.
