MESOP NEWS: ERDOGAN PREPARES FOR ANTI-PKK OPERATIONS IN SOUTH KURDISTAN-IRAQ
Turkey to Conduct Military Operation against PKK in Kurdistan: Report / Turkish Journalist says the operation will be kicked off in the spring this year
Leyla Hemid – BasNews – 25/01/2017 – 19:27 | Middle East – ERBIL — Turkish army will strike the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) inside Kurdistan Region’s borders, foresaw a Turkish journalist close to the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) and Turkish President Recep Teyyip Erdogan.
Abdulqadir Selvi, a columnist from the Turkish Hurriyet paper, said in a televised interview that the operation will be kicked off in March or April 2017 and will be similar to the Euphrates Shield in Syria. Euphrates Shield, a joint operation by the Turkish forces and Syrian opposition, began in late August 2016 in northern Syria to secure the area from PKK and Islamic State (IS). According to Selvi’s anticipation, the army will strike “the small Qandils” where it suspects the Kurdish PKK guerrillas direct car bombs against targets inside Turkey’s borders. www.mesop.de
