MESOP NEWS : DON’T FAVOR THE EURO ! – Kurdistan Region plans own currency

6.6.2014 – Zamanalwsl – The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) is planning to issue its own currency in order to complete its economic independence from the central government, an official told Rudaw TV.

Sorn Omar, a deputy from Islamic Communities, told the TV that the subject has been discussed in the parliament Wednesday afternoon meeting with PM Nechirvan Barzani. He further added the KRG oil export and the US opposition to the move without the central government’s approval were discussed and Barzani assured Washington’s disagreement will not go further. It is worth mentioning that the meeting also talked about the region’s problem in paying clerks after Baghdad cut their salaries. The parliament chief of Human Rights Committee said Erbil has borrowed 500 million dollars from a Turkish company and European countries have expressed their readiness to give loans to the region.
