MESOP NEWS : “AUTONOMY FÜR YEZIDI & CHRISTIANS (IN SINJAR) – & BUT NOT A PKK COLONY!”

KRG Supports Autonomy for Sinjar: KRG Representative to US – KRG has no issue with autonomy for Yezidis, Bayan Sami Abdul Rahman says

Shoguna B. Sobir – 25/02/2017 – ERBIL — The creation of autonomous areas for Yazidis and Christians in Iraq would not be opposed by the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG), according to the KRG Representative to the United States Bayan Sami Abdul Rahman, who on Thursday spoke at the Hudson Institute, a non-profit think tank based in Washington, DC.

“We have no issue with autonomy for them,” Abdul Rahman said, as reported by Sputnik.

“We should listen to them and we should give them what is necessary,” she added.

The two minorities could live in one autonomous territory or in two separate territories, said Rahman. Sinjar, a Yezidi-majority town was previously claimed to be part of Kurdistan Region by the KRG President Masoud Barzani. However, officially it is not under KRG rule. Moreover, whether it can be included under Kurdistan Region is also under dispute.
