MESOP NEWS : AFTER ISIS CAPTURED BY PKK / YAZIDI GIRLS

PKK Recruits Yezidi Survivors of IS Captivity: Official / PKK is trying to use those victims for its own political aims

Basnews English – 19 Nov 2016 – SINJAR — The mayor of Sinjar district stated on Saturday that Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) forces stationed in Sinjar take advantage of the Yezidi girls who survived the Islamic State (IS) slavery by recruiting them and using them in the military activities.

Mahma Khalil, the Mayor of Sinjar, revealed to BasNews that PKK is imposing a danger to the Yezidi girls freed from the IS grip. He noted that PKK keeps those survivors in its locations for a few days after their arrival. PKK is trying to use those victims for its own political aims and enroll them in the organization’s armed units, he said. The Yezidi official also mentioned that “the Iraqi government is not making any attempts to rescue the Yezidi abductees held in IS captivity despite our frequent calls for support.”

Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Committee to Locate and Rescue Kurdish Yezidi Abductees recently updated the figures, saying that 2,782 Yezidis have so far been rescued while 3,639 others remain in IS captivity. More than 5,000 Yezidis from Sinjar and the surrounding areas were taken captive when the IS militants overrun the area in August 2014. Thousands more were either executed or forced to flee home
