MESOP NEW : Fresh violence hit Syria’s Qamishli
ARA News – 18 Nov 2014 – Qamishli, Syria – Clashes renewed Monday between the People’s Protection Units (YPG) and militant fighters of the Islamic State (IS/ISIS) in the southern countryside of the city of Qamishli (Qamishlo), northeastern Syria, military sources told ARA News.In the town of Tel Hamis (30 km south of Qamishli) saw fierce clashes between the Kurdish fighters of the YPG and the IS militants, amid reports of casualties on both sides. Meanwhile, the YPG and IS reportedly exchanged mortar shelling in the Jazaa area at the Syrian-Iraqi border in the province of al-Hasakah, activists told ARA News. No casualties were reported in Jazaa.
This coincided with U.S.-led international coalition’s warplanes launching strikes against areas held by the IS group in the suburbs of al-Hasakah in northeastern Syria, local sources said.
Also on Monday, speaking to ARA News in Qamishli, civil rights activist Mohammed Barzan reported that the pro-regime forces carried out several air raids on the IS sites in the town of Tel Brak (45 km north of al-Hasakah city) and the surrounding villages.Over the past few days, the northern, western and eastern areas of Hasakah’s countryside saw sporadic clashes between the People’s Protection Units (YPG) and militants of the Islamic State.
