Haider Shasho to convince Berlin to recognize Yazidi massacre as genocide: official

BERLIN – 29 Apr 2015 – The Shingal Defense Forces’ spokesman told Kurdpress that a leading commander of the forces, Haider Shasho, has arrived in Germany and is to convince Berlin officials to recognize Iraqi Yazidi massacre by the militants of the Islamic State (IS) as genocide.

Rashed Dawoud stated Shasho, a Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) Yazidi commander, is a German citizen and has left Kurdistan Region for Germany to convince German officials to recognize the massacre as genocide, adding that Shasho would return the Kurdish region in days and would restart his activities as the commander of the forces. Kurdistan Region’s security forces of Asayesh arrested Shasho a few weeks ago in Dohuk, a KDP stronghold, and imprisoned him for over a week. Security forces cited the commander’s cooperation with volunteer forces in Shingal as the reason behind his arrest. He was later released after agreements between the PUK and the KDP. After his release from prison, Shasho stated the defense forces has cut all its ties with volunteer forces and would join Peshmerga ministry of the region.
