MESOP MIDEAST WATCH: Turkey Deploys over 1,500 Security Personnel to Kurdish Province for New Anti-PKK Operation

ERBIL9-11-2021 The Turkish security forces on Tuesday launched a new military operation against the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) in southeast of the country, Turkish Interior Ministry said.

With 121 teams consisting of 1,550 personnel, the operation is planned to target the PKK positions in the southeastern Sirnak province, the ministry added.

Since April this year, Turkey has stepped up military operations within and outside its borders to target the PKK and its affiliated armed groups, including those in northeast Syrian and Kurdistan Region of Iraq.

Devlet Bahceli, the leader of Nationalist Movement Party (MHP), said on Tuesday that the Turkish government should target the PKK outside the Turkish border in line with a motion passed by the parliament recently that allows such a move.

Legitimate use of force will spoil their game, and whoever targets our national security and our national presence and also plots their assassination will pay the heaviest price,” Devlet Bahceli told his party’s parliamentary group.
