Israeli Lawmakers Convene at 1 A.M. to Allow Airline to Keep Flying to Moscow

El Al’s was notified that, due to sanctions imposed on Russia, aircraft flying the Tel Aviv-Moscow route would no longer be insured ■ At 1 A.M., three lawmakers approve $2 billion government guarantee

The Knesset Finance Committee convened at 1 A.M. early Thursday for an unscheduled, expedited session to provide El Al Airlines a government guarantee so that it can continue flying between Israel and Russia.

Prior to the committee meeting, Finance Minister Avigdor Lieberman issued a letter stating at that on Wednesday international insurance firms had informed El Al that due to the sanctions imposed on Russia over its invasion of Ukraine, they would no longer be able to insure Israel’s flagship carrier for flights between Israel and Russia.
