Escalating violence between the Turkish military and the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) reflects yet another broken cease-fire in the 30-year conflict. Turkey has recommenced a cross-border bombing campaign and declared martial law in its southeastern Kurdish region while the PKK has relaunched deadly attacks against Turkish forces, institutions and assets. Still, this round of violence reflects a more protracted PKK problem. SYRIA COMMENT –  September 1, 2015 – At this site I have previously profiled several pro-Assad militias, such as theMuqawama Suriya, the Coastal Shield Brigade and Dir’ al-Watan. Below are profiles of five more pro-Assad militias.

Translating to ‘Quneitra Falcons Brigade’, this formation appears to comprise local pro-Assad militias to support the Syrian army in the remaining regime-held parts of Quneitra governorate, such as al-Ba’ath city. The existence of this force is acknowledged in pro-regime media outlets like Sama TV, issuing reports on the continued defence of al-Ba’ath city against the rebels. The origins of Liwa Suqur al-Quneitra trace back to its most famous ‘martyr’: Fadi al-Haj, also known as Abu Sakhr, depicted in the graphic below. MESOP EXCLUSIV : U.S. Conducting Clandestine Drone Campaign in Syria

2 Sept 2015 The CIA and Joint Special Operations Command (JSOC) are conducting a drone campaign against high-level Islamic State targets in Syria, the Washington Post reports. This clandestine campaign is being run separately from the international coalition’s effort and has targeted senior officials in the terrorist group, especially those working on supporting and expanding the Islamic State’s foreign franchises. Al-Qaeda leaders in Syria are also on the target list, according to the Post. Among those killed in the CIA-JSOC strikes was Junaid Hussain, a British fighter who worked on the Islamic State’s social media propaganda and recruitment. www.mesop.de

MESOP : „SCHWER BETRÜBT!“

Ganz bedauerlich und ‘Nicht ruetteln’ – VON THOMAS VON DER OSTEN-SACKEN

Ein bisschen bloed laeuft es schon mit dem Iran. Koennen die in Teheran nicht wenigstens ein paar Wochen aufhoeren, alle paar Tage zu verkuenden, dass die Vernichtung Israels oberste Prioritaet hat und nicht verhandelbar sei?

Hin und wieder fragt da naemlich jetzt schon ein Journalist mal nach. Und bei all den Delegationen und Kontakten und Besuchen, die die Europaer gerade planen, ist das unangenehm.

Einfach zu sagen “Solange der Iran weiter mit der Vernichtung Israels droht, fahren wir da nicht hin”, geht nicht, man hat ja gerade einen Deal abgenickt, lobpreist die Islamische Republik an Stabilisator des Nahen Osten und will ausserdem Geld machen.

Und wenn man zu deutlich wird, koennte Teheran einen ja ausladen.

Also produzieren sie so ein Gestammel

Ich bin dennoch betrübt oder finde es nicht akzeptabel, wie der Iran nach wie vor über Israel spricht. Es ist ein herber Rückschlag beziehungsweise kein Rückschlag, aber eine Enttäuschung, dass hier auch gar keine Wende zu erkennen ist, was die Akzeptanz des Staates Israel anbelangt.

Der oesterreichische Bundespraesident Heinz Fischer:

Österreichs Position und meine Position, dass Israel so wie alle anderen UNO-Staaten das Recht auf Existenz und das Recht auf Sicherheit für seine Menschen hat, daran gibt es nichts zu rütteln. Das stelle ich mit aller Klarheit fest.

Sollte es dem Iran dann, auch dank europaeischer Hilfe, gelingen, die Bombe zu werfen, sie werden alle ganz betruebt, ja empoert und sogar betroffen sein, und mit aller Klarheit feststellen, dass das ihren Positionen gar nicht entspricht. Soviel juckt sie die Sicherheit Israels.

Schon seit Jahren erhält Russland das Regime des syrischen Präsidenten Baschar al-Assad mit regelmäßigen Waffen- und Munitionslieferungen am Leben.
