MESOP LATEST : Kurdish Forces Kill Iranian Army Commander

28.09.2014 – Truska Sadiqi – BasNews, Iran – After a number of intensive clashes between the Peshmerga of Iranian Kurdistan and the Iranian Army, one Peshmerga and an Iranian Army commander have been killed.

Official Iranian media confirmed the killing of Iranian Army commander Sajad Takhti by Kurdish Peshmerga in clashes that took place in the Kurdish city of Shino in Iran. The Democratic Party of Iranian Kurdistan (PDKI) also confirmed that one of their Peshmerga has been killed in the Shino area. A source from the PDKI told BasNews that their Peshmerga members will stay in Iran.

On 13 September another confrontation took place between the two groups in the villages of Shene and Gorasher which resulted in the death of three Iranian soldiers and five injured. After the clashes, Peshmerga forces were forced to retreat toward the Kurdistan Region border. On the same day, fighting also took place in the Kurdish city of Mariwan on the border of Iran and the Kurdistan Region. The clashes continued for three hours and the number of casualties has not yet been revealed, though it is known that two Iranian soldiers were injured. The recent clashes in Iranian Kurdistan are yet another flashpoint in a region riven with conflict.
