MESOP LATEST : KDP & PUK reach accord on interior ministry
13-5-2014 – Kurdpress – Two former ruling Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) and Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) reached accord on the way to rule on the interior ministry of Kurdistan Region’s next government, Shar Press said in a report.
In a meeting between a delegation from PUK and a delegation from the KDP, the two parties decided each line can run the ministry for two years and thereby reached agreement on the issue that considered a big hurdle on forming the region’s new government.
According to the accord, the KDP will run the ministry the first two years and the PUK will have the post the last two years. The PUK central council will have the final say on the deal and will state its decision. The two former ruling parties have used the same way in governing the region since 2007. According to bilateral agreement each party would lead the government of the region for two years. A member in the PUK delegation said the party has achieved most of its goals and their meeting with the KDP delegation, led by Kurdistan Region President Massoud Barzani, has been fruitful.
