MESOP LATEST : IS militants are quitting Mosul: PUK official tells Kurdpress

6-9-2014 – Kurdpress – The militants of the Islamic State (IS) have received heavy defeats in the past days and they are preparing to leave the northern city of Mosul, a leading official of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) told Kurdpress.

The PUK Mosul office Chief Gias Sorchi said there have been no clashes between the militants and the Kurdish forces of Peshmerga in the past four days and the militants are preparing to leave Mosul, Iraq’s second biggest city after Baghdad. He went on to say that there are reports that the jihadist group is detonating houses belonging to officials and governmental offices in the city, calling it a sign of the group’s defeat. Sorchi added that the radical group is not as powerful as it was two months ago and it hegemony has been destroyed and its militants are withdrawing from occupied region.
