MESOP LATEST : IS Gives Ultimatum to Kurds from Mosul

20.09.2014 – Bryar Koyi – BasNews, Erbil – Islamic State militants have handed down new orders to the residents of Mosul, limiting travel within the city and demanding more residents leave.

On Saturday, the Islamic State militants banned transit throughout Mosul for all apart from its militants. IS has given an ultimatum to the remaining Kurds in Mosul, telling them that they have three days to leave the city. “Due to their fear of air strikes, IS has prohibited traveling in the city, and only IS militants can move freely,” said the Kurdistan Democratic Party’s spokesperson for Mosul, Saied Mamuzini . The IS announcement is aimed particularly at Kurds whose family members have fled to Kurdistan. “For a few days now IS militants have been informing Kurdish families to leave the city and head to the Kurdistan Region. However, this announcement has not reached to every family due to the size of the city and the number of families. IS militants are continuing to tell Kurdish families to leave Mosul,” Mamuzini added. Early in June, IS captured the city of Mosul, causing many residents to flee their homes. Kurds, Arabs and Christians left, dismayed at the brutal treatment being handed out by the militants.
