MESOP LATEST (II) : Erdogan warns KRG over Kurdish National Congress

Ilkehaber – 18.8.2013 – Turkey Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan warned Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) over decisions that are going to be made in the upcoming Kurdish National Congress in Kurdistan Region’s capital, Erbil, ilkehaber reported. –

“The congress is held out of Turkey and is not so related to us. But let me tell you frankly. The northern Iraqi administration should mind the congress’s decision will not be in contrast to their promises to us,” Erdogan told reporters on his plane returning from Arminia on Saturday.

We have told them clearly and I repeat it again, If the congress makes decisions that encourage Turkey’s division, we will review our political and economic ties with Erbil, he went on to say. The Kurdish National Congress, planned to be held next month, gathers parties from all Kurdish regions of Iraq, Iran, Turkey and Syria in Erbil, where the Kurdish leaders are due to discuss the Kurdish issue in the present Middle East.  Answering a question whether the Kurds will request to be a UN supervising member like Palestine, Erdogan said the issue of Palestinians is different as their land has been occupied by others and they do not have any passports but “do our Kurdish fellow suffer the same problems.”
