MESOP LATEST FLASH : Iranian forces arrive in Kirkuk
22.06.2014 – Nuwar Faqie – BasNews, Kirkuk – On June 21 between 450 and 500 soldiers from the Iranian Special Forces arrived in Kirkuk via Hurriya Airport.
A source from Kirkuk told BasNews correspondent in the city that the forces have been highly trained and carried heavy weaponry. On June 20, an airplane arrived in Kirkuk carrying four thousand pieces of weaponry, allegedly brought for Shia militia Asa’ib Ahl al-Haq. Kirkuk is currently stable, largely as a result of the Kurdish Peshmerga control over the province. However some suggest that the military movement by Shia militants and Iran may threaten Kirkuk’s stability.
