MESOP LATEST : Baghdad Hands Over Rabia to PYD (PKK)
19.06.2014 – BasNews, Mosul – A security source told BasNews correspondent that the federal government of Iraq has handed over the town of Rabia to People’s Protection Units (YPG), which is a military wing of Democratic Union Party (PYD) of Syria.
The source stated that previously Rabia, which is located on the border of Iraq and Syria, was under control of the federal government of Iraq. After the Islamic State of Iraq and Sham (ISIS) militant group controlled the majority of the Sunni area in Nineveh Province, YPG forces took control of the border. The source also mentioned that Kurdish Peshmarga forces went to Rabia to stabalize the area, but the YPG forces provided an official document signed by the National Security Advisor of Iraq, Lieutenant Salih al-Fayazi, giving the YPG authority over the city. The YPG Forces told Peshmarga that if they want to control the border in that area, they must obtain an official order from the federal government of Iraq. Rabia is a small Iraqi border-crossing town between Iraq and Syria on the road between Qamishli in Syrian Kurdistan and Mosul in Iraq.
