MESOP KOBANE TODAY – AN OVERVIEW – ISIS under fire

ARA News  – 23-10-2014 – Suruc, Turkey – On Wednesday, the international coalition’s fighter jets carried out four air raids against  radicals of the Islamic State (IS/ISIS), an al-Qaeda offshoot, in the city of Kobane, northern Syria. Speaking to ARA News in Kobane, civil rights activist Barzan Khalil said that the coalition-led warplanes carried out four air strikes with guided missiles on IS strongholds in eastern and southern neighborhoods of Kobane, without verifying the number of casualties in the radical group’s ranks. “Wednesday’s airstrikes were followed by fierce clashes between IS militants and Kurdish fighters from Popular Protection Units (YPG) in southeastern districts of the city,” Khalil reported. Meanwhile, a medical source from the field hospital inside the city of Kobane stated to ARA News on the phone that one of the YPG fighters lost his life during clashes against the IS radical group, while another one was injured. The same source reported that a woman and her 5-year-old son were wounded amid clashes in Kobane, adding that they have been receiving treatment in the field hospital since Wednesday afternoon.
