MESOP : ISIS IN IRAN – IS Militants Parade in Iranian Kurdistan

08.09.2014 – Hoshmand Sadiq – BasNews, Erbil – Iranian Interior Minister Abdolreza Rahmani Fazli has revealed that they have information suggesting that Islamic State (IS) insurgents plan to enter Iran, although there are no IS bases within Iran’s borders. He also said that Afghani and Pakistani militants have attempted to enter Iraq overland through Iran.

According to an Iranian news website on Sunday, in a statement about the security of Iran’s borders, Fazli said, ’IS insurgents have plans to enter Iran. However, they don’t currently have any bases in the country.”

’Iran is much stronger than a small militant group thinking about entering our land,’ said Fazli. Commenting on IS insurgents, he said, ’We have strong, secure borders that will prevent these insurgents from entering.” He continued, ’Some Pakistani and Afghani militants have attempted to enter Iraq through Iran, but we have returned them to their own counties.’ Iranian Forces Commander Ismael Ahmed pointed out, ’Due to their current loses in Iraq, IS has avoided Iran’s border. So far no clashes have taken place between Iranian forces and IS insurgents on our borders. We have information that some people have waved the IS flag on bikes in Kurdish areas of Iran, especially on the streets of Baneh and Sanandaj, where they conducted a military parade.’
