MESOP : IRAN & PUK & PKK ARE AGAINST KURDISH INDEPENDENCE & WANT LET THE PEOPLE DECIDE
Independence should be decided by people not a party leader: Abbas Wali
Kurdpress – 7.7.2014 – Kurdish university Professor Abbas Wali said it is the people of Kurdistan Region that should decide about the fate of the region not a party leader.
Two weeks ago Kurdistan Region President Massoud Barzani blamed Baghdad for recent developments in Iraq and the attacks of the Islamic State of Iraq and Sham (ISIS) onto Mosul and asked the Kurdish northern region’s parliament to make a plan to hold a referendum to ask people to decide whether they want to remain in Iraq or have an independent state.
“The issue is very important and decisive and deciding on independence is with people not with a party leader. The situation proves regional situation has changed and the Kurds should put aside their differences and decrease their dependence on regional countries and solve their economic problems,” Wali said.
He further recommended the region to have a unified “national army” and annul the situation that each party has its own military force.
He further said Kurds have different enemies and at the present time but Turkey is the only country that they can cooperate with.
“I do not claim that Turkey policy towards Kurds has changed strategically but the reality is that Ankara has changed it tough stance to a flexible one and the situation can benefit the Kurds,” he further said.
A present Istanbul’s Bugazici university professor, Wali founded Kurdistan University in Kurdistan Region.
