Kurdish Official: Iran Wants to Minimize Barzani Role in KRG – Attendance of Iranian representatives in Kurdistan Region Parliament hurts 50 million Kurds, Bawajani says
Basnews | Hemin Salih – 24.06.2015 – ERBIL – Kurdish political parties have expressed concerns over the presence of Iranian consular representatives in the Kurdistan Region Parliament yesterday. On 23rd June, the Parliament held a meeting to discuss a draft law suggesting amendments to Presidential law in the region.Leader of the Kurdistan Freedom Party (KFP) Arif Bawajani expressed his party’s concerns about the incident, claiming that such actions could hurt over 50 million Kurds around the world.
Bawajani told BasNews, “I cannot understand the necessity of Iranian consular representatives attending a parliamentary meeting which discusses interior issues. “It is happening while the Iranian government is executing hundreds of Iranian Kurdish youths every year,” he stressed. “Instead of the representatives of a country which is known as a trouble maker in the region, the presidency [speaker, deputy speaker and secretary] of the parliament should have invited representatives of other parts of Kurdistan.”Bawajani noted that the Iranian parliament never invites Kurdish parties to attend interior affair discussions. He added that Kurds around the globe are concerned about the incident as it has reflected negatively in the international media. “It is about the Iranian government which is attempting to minimize the role of Massoud Barzani in the region.”
