MESOP INSIGHT : Syria Opposition’s three-day meetings end
8-4-2014 – Kurdpress – The Syrian National Coalition (SNC) held three-day meetings in Istanbul to discuss the fourth year of the Syrian revolution and the outcome of the Geneva-2 conference held in February, Anadolu news agency said.
SNC spokesperson, Louay Safi, said on Monday that the Arab League should give Syria’s vacant seat to the country’s anti-Assad opposition.“SNC delegated its administrative power to the Syrian interim government in military, political and service issues. As we fulfilled the Arab League’s requirement, they should grant Syria’s vacant seat to us,” Louay Safi told reporters after the Istanbul-based Coalition’s meeting on Monday. “We have preconditions to participate in a possible Geneva-3,” Safi said. “The Syrian regime must be ready for a political solution and power transition. Russia must change its attitude in United Nations Security Council regarding the Syrian issue. And the situation on the ground also must change.” “The military help from the U.S. and Friends of Syrian People Core Group countries is not enough. Iran, Hezbollah and Russia are fully supporting the regime with their all weaponries. We also have a report stating that some Iraqi soldiers fight in Syria alongside the regime forces,” he claimed. It is worth mentioning that the three-day meetings failed to elect a person as the chief of the coalition.
