Iraqi Kurdistan’s PUK delegation in Tehran, meets with Iranian officials

Irna.ir – MESOP  – 31 Oct 2016 – TEHRAN,— Saudi Arabia with its interventionist policy in the Iraqi Kurdistan region aims to incite the members of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) to disrupt security in Iran, Secretary of Iran’s Expediency Council Mohsen Rezaei said.Rezaei made the remarks in a meeting with a delegation from the PUK. A delegation led by Mala Bakhtiar of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) which only consists of senior members of an opposing PUK faction has arrived in Tehran on Sunday in a four-day visit to the Iranian capital city.

Speaking at a meeting with visiting delegation of PUK on Sunday, Rezaei emphasized that Iran, on the other hand, treats Kurds of all countries with complete respect.Mohsen Rezaei said some regional countries, including Saudi Arabia, are in fight with Kurds living in Turkey, Syria and Iraq. “Saudis interfere with internal affairs of Iraqi Kurdistan and seek to disturb Iran’s security by stimulating Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP),” he added. The senior Iranian official further said “we had a battle with democrat forces in Mariwan while PUK’s ties with the Islamic Republic are far better than other groups and need to be expanded.”

“PUK holds excellent capacities due to its humane and prominent figures and its ties with Iran have remained stable over the past five decades,” Rezaei noted. He also stated that the first Iraqi president was chosen from among one of PUK figures denoting the union’s positive political background.

The official urged PUK members to maintain unity in order to prevent harm to all individuals; “the oppressed people of Iraq are eying your performance which has so far been worth appreciable both in the fight against Saddam as well as the combat against Islamic State terrorists.”Secretary of Iran’s Expediency Council Mohsen also admired the strategic relations between PUK and Ammar al-Hakim, Leads of Islamic Supreme Council of Iraq, which led to formation of the Iraqi government.For his part, chief of executive body of PUK Mala Bakhtiar said  ‘We are ready to fully cooperate with Iran to fight against IS,’ Bakhtiar said.The PUK needs Iran’s help to reach the union’s ends, he stressed.

About the conflicts between the Iranian and Kurdish forces, Bakhtiar said, ‘We follow up the issue, we’re worried about it and we have made our efforts to preserve good relations with the Kurds.’

The PUK delegation expected to meet with other Iranian officials over issues within the PUK party, the fight against the Islamic State (IS) and the post-war period, the financial crisis facing Iraqi Kurdistan and the current status quo.

The delegation include the head of PUK Politburo Mala Bakhtiar, accompanied by senior party officials Omar Fatah, Saadi Ahmad Pira, Khasraw Gul, Bavel Talabani and Yasin Sabir.
