MESOP INDEPTH : THE CULTURE OF WESTERN PROTEST & BIGOTRY
By Seth J. Frantzman – 5 Febr 2017
When ISIS killed thousands of people in Iraq, executing them in mass graves, and raping and selling women, and driving a million people from their homes, Americans did not protest.
When Syria’s Assad drove 12 million people from their homes, killed hundreds of thousands and made 4 million into refugees, Americans did not protest.
When Saud and its alliesi bombed Yemen and killed civilians, and Iran’s proxies began a brutal war, Americans did not protest.
When al-Shabab stoned women in Somalia and destroyed part of the country, Americans did not protest.
When Libya sank into chaos after international intervention and no one cared and thousands died, Americans did not protest.
When Iran forced half its population to cover their hair, executed minorities and brutally oppressed its people, Americans did not protest.
When Sudan committed a genocide in Darfur, Americans did not protest.
When Donald Trump signed an executive order banning refugees and migrants from these country, Americans protested.
Perhaps they should have started protesting years ago, to defend the rights of refugees in their home countries? Why do we ignore genocide, mass murder, sexism, racism, oppression, slavery, bigotry, fascism, mass rape, bombing, chemical weapons, depopulation, ethnic-cleansing, religious extremism, abroad, but then finally stand up for people’s rights when they, after long struggle, arrive at the shores of the US?
Wouldn’t it be better to have helped them never have to flee their homes in the first place?
