MESOP : FROM BDP TO HDP : Demirtas & Yuksekdagh elected as HDP co-leaders
The pro-Kurdish Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) congress elected former Peace and Democracy Party (BDP) co-chair Selahattin Demirtas and Figen Yksekdagh as the party’s co-leaders.
The new leaders failed to achieve enough votes in first and second round of the party’s polls but succeeded to secure enough votes in the third round. Kurdistan Region President Massoud Barzani’s representative to the party Kemal Kirkuki, a Gorran (Change Movement) deputy, representatives from other parties in Kurdistan Region as well as representatives from Syria Kurdish regions, representatives from a number of foreign embassies as well as quests from Europe and South Africa attended in the intra-Party elections.
