MESOP FOCUS : Syrian Kurdistan Issue Hinders Kurdish National Conference

26.03.2014 – Mewan Dolamari – BasNews, Erbil – A member of the preparatory committee of the Kurdish National Conference (KNC) has announced that the committee is still formed and that the holding of the KNC is crucial.Kurdistan Islamic Union (KIU) member of the KNC Preparatory Committee, Khalil Ibrahim, stated that the KNC has been postponed and the new date has not yet been determined.

“It is more important to hold the KNC now than ever before. The preparatory committee is still formed but has not yet made any preparations for the conference,” said Ibrahim. He noted that there are some issues, particularly surrounding Syrian Kurdistan, which should not be taken into the conference, but solved before the holding of the KNC to ensure its success. “The KNC won’t be held while these issues exist,” said Ibrahim. The first KNC was planned to be held in October, but due to disagreements between the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) and Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) over Syrian Kurdistan, the conference has been postponed indefinitely.
