Mewan Dolamari – BasNews, Irbil – Activists and the Anfal Victims Organization have been gathering in front of the German consulate in Erbil demanding that the German companies who had relations with deposed dictator Saddam Hussein apologize and be put on trial.

A number of German companies sold chemical weapons to the Saddam Hussein’s Baath Regime. The Head of Anfal Victims Organization, Zaman Abda said: “The Baath regime bombed many different areas in the Kurdistan Region with chemical weapon from 1987 onwards. The weapons were provided to Saddam Hussein by 80 German companies, yet Germany has not apologized to the Kurds or officially recognized Kurdish Genocide.” Abda also noted that Germany has not been involved in the development process that has taken place in the Kurdistan Region and has not sent its accused companies to court. The protesters delivered a statement to the Kurdish representative of the German Embassy, Ehsan Warzi, and he said that he would pass the document on to the German officials in the consulate.
