MESOP FLASH : 7 PUK high-profile officials leave party for KDP

Some 7 high-ranking officials from the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) quit the party and joined the rival Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP), websites close to the later party said.
The report hit the media after the PUK leading council member Aref Rashdi was reported to have joined the KDP. The Kurdistan Region’s media later stated that 6 other PUK officials have left the party for the KDP.Although only the name of 7 officials who have joined the PUK have released, the region’s media announced some 100 members of the party have joined the PUK former ally KDP. Xendan website said in a report that the former PUK officials will receive posts in KDP after the region’s local election at the end of April. PUK, whose leader Jalal Talabani is in Germany since December 2012 after receiving a severe heart attack, has no commented on the report.
