MESOP FAREWELL ! YASAR KAYA – Kurdish Politician returns to Turkey
14.04.2014 – Kako Ibrahim – BasNews, Turkey – Exiled Kurdish writer and politician Yasar Kaya returns to Turkey after 21 years.
Kaya, who lives in Germany, told Anadolu News Agency that he will return to Ankara on April 17th where him and his lawyer will go to court and give his statement. Kaya also expressed plans to go to Istanbul to pay tribute to his mother at her grave. Kaya’s son Dara lives in Erbil and explained that his father will return to Turkey as a result of the peace process initiative. He stressed that the process is not only directed towards members of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) but towards all of the people who were forced to flee Turkey.
Dara stressed the importance of facilitating the return of people like his father as a way of helping the peace process. He explained that although his father is elderly and ill he has much knowledge, experience and valuable advice. On March 6th the criminal court in Ankara issued a statement saying that if Yasar Kaya presented himself in court within three months he would not be arrested. Yasar Kaya was the head of Turkish Democratic Party that was banned in 1994. He fled and found political asylum in Germany. He was also Kurdish Parliament Speaker in exile and the owner of the Uzgur Gundem newspaper.
