MESOP EXCLUSIVE: Assad’s financial support for YPG reaches more than half million dollar
12.05.2014 – Hemin Salih – BasNews, Erbil – According to BasNews sources, the head of the al-Ta tribe Mohammed al-Fars pointed out that the tribe will soon establish a joint checkpoint with Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG) forces.
A number of tribes closely linked to President Bashar al Assad were present in the meeting. “In the meeting we spoke about creating joint checkpoints with the YPG to protect security and safety in the Hasakkah area,” said Fars. Fars also revealed that his attempt to raise YPG’s monthly payment by the Syrian regime was successful and that it has reached half a million dollars per month. YPG has allegedly reacted negatively to Fars’ public revelations, claiming it was not for the public to know.
Fars transfers the monthly payment via the official of Syrian Regime Intelligence Service Hamedan al-Ersan to YPG forces.
Member of Kurdistan Democratic Party – Syria (KDP-S) Nouri Brimo spoke to BasNews about the relations between the Arab tribal groups and YPG: “Democratic Union Party (PYD) is ready to tighten relations with all parties and groups, except Kurds and this is for the sake of controlling power.”
Brimo pointed out that it is normal for YPG to create a joint checkpoint: “whatever Fars has said should be right because they don’t want to hinder their relations with YPG,” said Brimo. He also noted that PYD has a good relation with Arab tribal groups and Assad’s regime. “PYD is doing this to strengthen its power because they do not want other parties to exist or posses power,” added Brimo.
