MESOP DOCU TURKEY : ‘Democratisation package’ published in Official Gazette

ANF – ANKARA 13.03.2014 – The Law pertaining to changes in various laws for the purpose of the development of Fundamental Rights and Freedoms, known as the ‘Democratisation Package” and approved by Turkish President Abdullah Gül, has come into effect after being published in the Official Gazette.

According to this law, all manner of political propaganda may now be carried out by political parties and candidates in different languages and dialects apart from Turkish. Political parties will also be able to have in their rules and to implement the co-presidency system, as long as it consists of no more than two persons. The co-presidents will be subject to the provisions valid for presidents. It will be possible to open private schools for the purpose of providing education and tuition in different languages and dialects. The languages and dialects in which this education and tuition will be provided in these institutions shall be determined by decision of the Council of Ministers.
