04/08/2014 – lvilda Jablonko – The CSW brings together representatives from member states and NGOs to assist the UN in promoting women’s rights in political, economic, civil, social and educational fields. Over the past four years, the Transnational Radical Party and NPWJ attended the CSW to focus attention on FGM and the adoption and implementation of UNGA Resolution 67/146.


This year, NPWJ, together with UNECA, IAC and the support of the Italian Cooperation, organised a parallel event “Ban FGM Worldwide: taking action on UNGA Resolution 67/146”, to discuss strategies aimed at a full and swift translation into effective national laws of the principles and provisions of the Resolution.
H.E. Mme Chantal Compaore, First Lady of Burkina Faso, opened the meeting by reiterating her support for all actions aimed at the implementation of the Resolution. She was followed by Thokozile Ruzvidzo, UNECA, who stressed the role of Regional organisations; Mme Mariam Lamizana, President of IAC, about civil-society/government cooperation; Imam Djiguiba Cisse, President and founder of the “Fondation Djigui – La Grande Espérance”, on the responsibilities of religious leadership to counter false ideas about FGM; Dr. Morissanda Kouyate on the origins and hazards of medicalisation; Hon. Sulaimani Security Chief: Many Kurds Who Went for Syria Jihad Have Returned
By Salar Reza & Nawzad Mahmoud – RUDAW – 9.4.2014 – Wasta Hassan, chief of the Sulaimani Security Department (Asayish), says that the number of Jihadist recruits going to fight in Syria from the Kurdistan Region has fallen, and that many who went have repented and returned.
