MESOP : CLEAR COOPERATION ASSAD FORCES & YPG (PYD) ? After accusing YPG of attacks against civilians, SNC drops statement
August 2, 2014 – ARA News – Hasakah, Syria – After the official site of the Syrian National Coalition (of the revolutionary forces and the opposition) published on Thursday a press statement for Hadi al-Bahra, the new elected head of the Coalition, condemning “the attacks of the Kurdish forces of the Popular Protection Units (YPG) against civilians in Geweran neighbourhood in Hasakah”, the SNC website deleted the statement hours after its publication without explanation. The statement attributed to al-Bahra said that the Geweran attackس carried out by the YPG in direct coordination with the pro-Assad regime forces on Wednesday, led to the death of a mother and her six children, while the father was seriously injured, according to information received from activists based in neighbourhood of Geweran.
The statement condemned what it described “the clear coordination between the regime forces and the YPG ‘militia’”, confirming that the PYD (the Democratic Union Party, political head of the YPG forces) “became part of the war on the Syrian people and their revolution”, and that targeting civilians on Thursday “is a clear violation to the international conventions concerning the protection of civilians in conflict zones, and will be exposed to prosecution and punishment”.
Speaking to ARA News, Kurdish member of the Political Committee of the Syrian National Coalition (SNC), Hawass Ageed, said: “We definitely refuse the statement issued by the leadership of the SNC on what is happening in Hasakah. This does not reflect the vision of the Coalition and its Kurdish members.”
Ageed pointed out that what is happening in Hasakah “is a clear offensive by militants of the Islamic State (IS) against the region”, and the entire people of the region are “ready to defend any demagogue attack on their areas”, adding: “We condemn any attack by any armed force against civilians.”
On the other hand, an official in the Beiruti Bridge (rebel group in northeastern Syria), told ARA News that the YPG forces were targeting with Dushka machine guns houses of suspects in Geweran neighbourhood of Hasakah. “This news of massacres against civilians is untrue,” he said.
Noteworthy, activists from the Geweran district south of Hasakah, in northeastern Syria, which is under the control of Ahrar Geweran, accused the YPG forces of committing a massacre in the neighbourhood on Wednesday. Meanwhile, the city was bombarded on several parts by the Islamic State (IS) which has dominated recently the Regiment 121 in al-Melebiya South of Hasakah.
