Thousands of Christians flee villages after militant attacks / Thousands of Christians have fled their homes to a checkpoint near the Iraqi city of Irbil.
CCTV-com – 26.6.2014 – They attempted to seek sanctuary in Kurdish-controlled territory after Sunni insurgents attacked several Christian villages. They arrived in cars and on foot, and told of having to leave their homes quickly. They were also angry with what they saw as a lack of presence by Iraqi forces.
The Iraqi government is struggling to repel advances led by ISIL militants. The well-trained and mobile force is thought to have some ten thousand militants inside the country.
