IS has no future, says Kurdistan Region President Massoud Barzani
Basnews | Biryar Koyi – 18.02.2015 – ERBIL – Kurdistan Region President Massoud Barzani says that while Islamic State (IS) remains a threat to the world, they will commit atrocities wherever they can. On Tuesday, Barzani received French Army Chief of Staff General Pierre de Villiers and his delegation of the French Consul and French military officials.The French army chief offered his praise and gratitude for the role of the Peshmerga in the was against Islamic State (IS), and reported on the developing strong relationship between Kurdish forces and French military advisors. He promised his nation’s continued support, acknowledging that the world needs to cooperate in tackling the jihadists.
The development of cooperation between French military advisors and the Peshmerga is a necessity, de Villiers said. Barzani thanked France, and President Francois Hollande for his previous visit to Erbil. He offered his condolences in regards to the terrorist attacks on Charlie Hebdo and Copenhagen, and warned that nowhere is safe from the actions of terrorists, and the world has a duty to combat them. He pointed out that the brutality and inequality of IS has no future. Barzani went on to reveal that due to the bravery of the Peshmerga, 15,000 km2 of territory has been recovered from IS insurgents. The meeting was attended by Chancellor of Kurdistan Region Security Masrour Barzani, Peshmerga Minister Mustafa Sayid Qadir, President’s Chief of Staff Fuad Hussein and Peshmerga Deputy Minister Haji Osman among many other officials.
