Iranian Diplomat: Barzani Will Never Give Up On Independence

03.08.2014 – Bestun Kakayi – BasNews, Iran –  Iran’s former ambassador to Jordan, Nosratollah Tajik, says that the Kurdistan Region President Massuad Barzani will never give in regarding Kurdish independence. The former Iranian diplomat, in an interview with Iranian media, said that Barzani’s aim is to achieve independence and he won’t stop short of that.

“It would be impossible for Barzani to accept something short of independence in the current situation and along with that, there are some western countries which support Kurdish independence as well,” said Tajik.

“Even the US, which publicly says that are supporting Iraqi unity, but are helping the Kurds behind the scenes with economic and military assistance,” he continued.

He added that there is a general feeling that Kurds are moving towards independence and they would want more than federalism ensuring they can sell their oil more independently. After the recent developments in Iraq with ISIS insurgents controlling parts of the north of the country, Kurdish independence has become a hot topic. However, the Iranian government has already rejected the idea, accusing Israel of being behind it.
