MESOP “BIG HIT” BY PKK ? – Car bomb attack blamed on Kurdish PKK targets Turkish police in Van city

Ekurd net – 12 Sept 2016 – VAN, Turkey’s Kurdish region,— Suspected Kurdish militants detonated a car bomb at a Turkish police checkpoint near local government offices in Turkey’s southeastern Kurdish city of Van on Monday, wounding scores of people, a day after two 24 24 mayors from Kurdish-run municipalities were stripped of office.The blast hit some 200 meters from the Van provincial governor’s office, security sources said, ripping through the city’s central district and setting buildings and cars aflame. Officials said 48 people were wounded but no one died.

Turksih security sources said that Kurdish militants from the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) were responsible for a car bomb which ripped through a central district of the city of Van, and the provincial governor said 19 people were wounded.The head of the Van security general directorate stated that the explosion occurred at around 11 p.m. near the Van Governor’s Office and the provincial headquarters of the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) in the Beşyol region.Buildings near the scene were damaged and a fire broke out in the aftermath of the attack.A number of firefighters and health personnel were immediately dispatched to the scene, as security forces closed roads linking to the scene of the attack to traffic. AKP Van deputy Burhan Kayatürk told private broadcaster CNN Türk that the attack targeted the police check point in front of the party’s provincial headquarters.
