MESOP : Baghdad & KRG agree for Peshmerga to stay in disputed regions
16.06.2014 – BasNews, Erbil – The Iraqi government has announced its agreement with the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) to allow Peshmerga (military forces) to remain in the disputed territories. In a press conference the Iraqi National Security Advisor Falah al-Fayyad said that Baghdad and the Kurdistan Region had agreed for the Peshmerga to remain in disputed regions, including Kirkuk and Mosul.
“Peshmerga forces are legal and registered in the list of Iraqi security forces, and Baghdad and Erbil have agreed for them to protect Iraqi security and strike back against ISIS in the near future,” said Fayyad. Earlier this week, KRG Peshmerga Ministry ordered for the Kurdish forces not to leave the disputed regions.
