MESOP AT LAST / BASHAR’S DAYS ARE NUMBERED : Regime ups ante for recruits by offering 1 hot meal per day

The Syrian regime approved plans on Monday to provide soldiers on the front lines with incentives of SP10,000 monthly and one hot meal a day, Syrian state news agency SANA reported. –
The improvements are for those soldiers “who stand on the frontlines in confronting armed terrorist organizations,” Prime Minister Wael al-Halqi told the Syrian Parliament. This most recent bonus comes as part of a number of regime efforts to boost morale and attract new recruits. The regime’s “Join the Armed Forces” media campaign is among the most recent efforts to attract volunteers, with billboards throughout the country urging Syrians to join the “valiant [armed] forces,” the Syrian Mirror
reported Monday. Late last month, a Syrian soldier posted a photo of daily rations consisting of a potato, an egg, and three pieces of bread, writing “the joke continues.” www.mesop.de
