Kurdish congress committee should hold meeting: official tells Kurdpress

A member of the Kurdish congress committee and a Kurdish deputy in Turkey Parliament Malakya Birtana believes the committee of the long-delayed congress should hold meeting soon as the regions is experiencing fast changes.

Speaking with Kurdpress on Phone, the deputy said she and three other Turkey Kurdish deputies and members of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) visited Kurdistan Region in Iraq to disucuss ties between the Kurdistan Workers’ Party and Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) as well as developments in the region.

She further added they held separate meetings with all parties in the Kurdish region in the north of Iraq and discussed developments and the committee, adding that the delegation has demanded the committee to hold a gathering as soon as possible.

Birtana further reiterated on the developments and political changes in Iraq and reiterated the achievements of Iraqi Kurds are needed to be protected and saved.

The deputy went on to say that there are agreements among all Kurdish parties over the congress, reiterating that the unity of the Kurds in the region is not a threat and a source of fear but will end in a cooperation annuity that will improve the security status in the region. “Kurds have always been under oppression but they have never hurt others.”

She denied any serious tension between the KDP and the PKK and reiterated the problems between the two sides over power sharing in northern Syria Kurdish region will be solved.

Birtana linked the delay of the congress to the indirect intervention of regional powers but stated some nine hundred percents of the problems in holding the congress is over, stressing that there is no clear timetable to hold the national congress that was postponed two times. The deputy went on to say that there were doubts about the three Kurdish cantons in northern Syria but the “doubts are over and all have accepted the reality especially after the Kurdish forces’ resistance against the ISIS militants.” The Kurdish deputy said there will be a meeting in her party decided to nominate a person to run in the upcoming presidential elections in Turkey, denying any official request form leftist CHP member Reza Turmen to represent Kurds in the polls.
