MESOP ALERT : Activist’s office burned down in Amude city, northeast Syria – Office of legal-Studies in Amude burned by PYD ?
ARA News – 16-5-2014 – Amude, Syria – An anonymous group has reportedly burned down the office of legal-studies of the activist Omar Haji Nuri in Amude city, northeast of Syria, on Wednesday morning. Hji Nuri is a member of the Local Coordination Committee, which falls under the banner of the Syrian National Coalition for Revolutionary Forces and the Opposition (SNC).
Speaking to ARA News, Omar Haji Nuri said that he doesn’t accuse a specific party of the act of burning down his office. “However, it should be emphasized that these coward acts have repeated very often in all the Kurdish cities and remarkably target a particular group of people,” Haji Nuri said.
Mohammed Shwaysh, member of the Local Committee of the Kurdish National Council (KNC) in Amude city, stated to ARA News that they (KNC) will release a “strongly worded statement” regarding this incident. Talking about the party which might be behind the burning of Haji Nuri’s office, a local resident of Amude city (who preferred to remain anonymous) accused what he called “the gangs of the Democratic Union Party (PYD)” of standing behind the act of burning down the office. The local resident called on the KNC “not to tolerate these acts anymore”.
Notably, the phenomenon of burning down and targeting the offices of the different Kurdish political parties which are part of the KNC (a rival body to the PYD) has occurred repeatedly in the last couple of months in areas northeast of Syria. – Reporting by: Peshwa Mohammed
