that Tafas has accepted a new agreement with the Syrian government, after Mzeirib, Yadoudeh, and Deraa al-Balad.

Small towns, villages, and other wrinkles aside, the Tafas capitulation would, if sustained, mean that the army has reached the limit of the ex-rebel areas that saw agreements brokered by Russia in 2018. The area due west is the former Islamic State enclave in the Yarmouk Basin.

On why Yadoudeh and (especially) Tafas were priority goals in the Syrian government’s campaign in the western Deraa countryside.
