KNC holds meeting with Iranian Kurdish politicians on Syria

ARA News – Erbil, Iraqi Kurdistan – Under the sponsorship of the Kurdistan Regional Government in Iraqi Kurdistan (KRG), a delegation of the Kurdish National Council in Syria (KNC) held meetings with members of the Kurdistani Democratic Party of Iran on Friday in the city of Sulaymaniyah.

Dr. Kawa Azizi, member of the KNC who participated in the recent meetings in Sulaymaniyah, told ARA News: “We held two meetings with the Iranian Kurdistani Democratic Party, during which we exchanged visions regarding the current situation both in Syria and in the Iraqi Kurdistan, and our Kurdish peers in Iran seem quite concerned about the Kurdish issue in Syria.”

“We both agreed that utilising armament to dominate the Syrian Kurdish region and creating obstacles to the political movement as well as resorting to violence against political rivals do not serve the Kurdish issue in Syria, and we clearly referred to the practices of the Democratic Union Party (PYD) against our people in Syria and this party’s attempts to monopolize power in Syria’s Kurdish areas,” Azizi stated.

Azizi also emphasized that the KNC, the KRG and the Iranian Kurdistani Democratic Party reached an agreement to strengthen their relations and work together for the sake of reaching a just solution to the Kurdish issue in Syria, beside inviting the PYD leadership “to cooperate with other Syrian Kurdish political forces and end the phase of exclusion and marginalization”.

The Kurdistani Democratic Party of Iran is known for its opposition to the Iranian regime of the Islamic Republic. It was established in Mahabad city –known as Iranian Kurdistan– in 1945 and raised the slogan of “democracy for Iran and self-rule for Kurdistan” until 2004 when it adopted the federation concept.
