KDP Spokesperson: we will deal with the PUK based on elections result

15.03.2014 – BasNews, Erbil – The Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) spokesperson Jaffar Eminiki has explained the latest developments in the formation of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG).Eminiki said that because of its win, the KDP is entitled to ask for any ministry, including the Interior and Finance Ministries.

“Gorran has asked for the Interior Ministry, but if we look at the reality of things, we as KDP have a right to take one of security-related ministries like the Interior Ministry,” said the spokesperson. “It is important that Gorran does not feel marginalized and keeps in mind that there are other options other than the Interior Ministry,” added Eminiki.  

Regarding the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan’s (PUK) role in the formation of the new government, Eminiki explained: “we will deal with the PUK based on the results of the elections.”Eminiki also dismissed reports that the KDP has posed conditions for other parties to participate in the 8th Kurdish government. He stressed that the KDP has not set conditions and that media reports of them asking for a similar stance towards Baghdad are false. Eminiki explained that all parties have reached an agreement on the government program and they are now concentrating on the cabinet shares. He also stressed that the current problems are with the Ministry of Interior and Peshmerga as the leading parties all want those positions. Eminiki also said that the current problems between the KRG and the federal government are not the cause of delay in the formation of the new government.
