KAK KOSRET : KURDISH PEOPLE ARE NOT IN A POSITION TO DECIDE !
Kosrat Rasul cautions about misadventure in declaring independence
Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) Deputy Leader Kosrat Rasul Ali cautioned Iraqi Kurds should consider everything in declaring independence from Iraq.
“All the Kurdish people support it, but the leadership must consider whether the time is appropriate or not,” Ali also Kurdistan Region vice president and veteran Peshmerga commander told Reuters. “If the political climate is not ripe, perhaps we will have to wait years. Otherwise it will be a misadventure,” he added, echoing the caution of several leaders. As it has for a decade, the threat alone of secession may offer greater benefits to the Kurds in the three-way bargaining with Shiites and Sunnis that has defined post-Saddam politics. Speaking to different media, Kurdistan Region President Massoud Barzani has permanently stressed that Iraq is going toward division and the Kurdish region will soon hold a referendum to quit Iraq and establish a Kurdish state.
