U.S. officials are expressing growing concern about Russia’s military build-up in Assad-controlled Syria, calling it “unprecedented” – with one telling Fox News it compares in scope to Vladimir Putin’s incursion into Crimea.

“It’s beginning to look like Crimyria,” the official told Fox News.

Two U.S. officials who have reviewed the latest intelligence told Fox News that satellite imagery reveals more flights of massive Russian An-124 “condor” military cargo planes landing in Syria. They are offloading troops, including just under 50 Russian marines, and armored vehicles.

U.S. officials said the Russian activity in Syria is unlike any they’ve seen since the start of the Syrian civil war four years ago.

“This is definitely a build-up straight out of Russia’s military doctrine,” said one official.

The Russian government is not denying the build-up.

Schon twittern russische Soldaten Bilder, wie sie schwer bewaffnet in Syrien rumstehen, ihre Freunde aus dem Iran und von der Hizbollah unterstuetzen.

Aber natuerlich ist das keine Intervention, eskaliert den Konflikt auch nicht, nein, in Europa, da reden sie jetzt alle davon, den Iran und Russland brauche man, neben Assad, um den IS jetzt zu bekaempfen.

Man fuehlt sich an einen Alkoholiker erinnert, der schwer leberkrank erklaert, ein paar Schnaepse mehr und alles werde gut.

“The refugee crisis is often looked at through the Isis prism”, said Emile Hokayem of the International Institute for Strategic Studies think-tank. “But most refugees are leaving for Europe because they were fleeing Assad’s air strikes and barrel bombs.”

“To contain Isis, you need sustained and expensive air strikes, plus the Kurds,” he added. “But if you want to defeat Isis, you additionally need Sunni Arabs. And to get them, you need a political and military strategy to address the fate of Assad.”
