ISIS hideout destroyed on the Kurdish border with Iraq

11.03.2014 –  MESOP –  Erbil – Iraqi army commander Mohammad Khalaf announced that his troop has found and destroyed a barrack used by the Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham (ISIS) in Hamrin Mountain, Kirkuk province.

Khalaf explained that the findings came after they had gathered detailed information regarding the barrack’s location, which in the past had also been a hideout for armed Afghan and Arab terrorists. “The terrorists escaped after we started the ambush,” said Khalaf. Hamrin Mountain is known to the Kurds as the border between the Kurdistan Region and Iraq, but this is not an official division. Clashes in Kirkuk province are frequent, the most recent between ISIS and security forces resulted in the killing of three terrorists and the injuring of an officer and three soldiers. As a result of the escalating civil war in Syria, the activities of terrorist group’s crossing over to Iraq have increased, resulting in security concerns for the country.
